AMERICAN WALKERS' ASSOCIATION of Greater Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH

Public group

The American Walkers' Association of Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, established in December 1916, is the oldest walking club in the USA, celebrating its 100th year in 2016. The club organizes Sunday morning group walks spanning four to seven miles in various locations across Northern Kentucky, Southwest Ohio, and Southeast Indiana, including city parks, county parks, state parks, bike trails, and roads. Participants are encouraged to join for health, friendship, and recreation, irrespective of age or ability, fostering a welcoming and social atmosphere. The club also emphasizes respecting park regulations, such as not bringing dogs on scheduled hikes, and adapting to weather conditions by relocating hikes to surfaced roads when trails are muddy or icy. The club fosters a sense of community and connection, echoing William Butler Yeats' sentiment, 'There are no strangers here, only friends you haven't yet met.'
